WELCOME

Azzaro - The Home of Quality Gordon Setters

I was first introduced to Gordon Setters in 1986, when I was given a pup for my birthday.  'Max' life was short, and soon after we lost him, his breeder offered us an older English Setter to help fill the gap............ In 1991 the enjoyment and love of these two breeds was taken a step further and into the show ring, and a few years later, in 1999, an English Pointer joined our kennels.

2001 brought about a relocation and a change of lifestyle and kennel name.  Azzaro was born, named after BIS, BISS Ch Fleckwood Azzaro, my first homebred Gordon Setter, - successfully handled in the show ring, before we sadly lost him at 8yrs young.

I had previously shown and bred under the banner of Fleckwood Kennels.

TEAM AZZARO: Ernie and I with Paige O'Neill and Neko, after they had won the Junior Handler's Final at the National Dog Show, 4 October 2009.
This qualifies Paige to represent NZ at the Crufts Dog Show, Birmingham March 2010
***UPDATE;  PAIGE WINS RUNNER UP AT CRUFTS IN JUNIOR HANDLERS***

Azzaro
is situated on 2.5 acres in Levin,  a town with an estimated population of 19,550.  Levin is on  State Highway 1 and the North Island Main Trunk railway, 90 kilometres north of Wellington, 50 kilometres south of Palmerston North.

As well as having our own cats and dogs, for the last 8yrs, I have loved taking care of other People's Pets when they have not been able to.
In May 2010, we moved to a bigger facility, and purchased what was  then known as Levin Boarding Kennels & Cattery, and now to be known as Azzaro Boarding Kennels & Cattery.
While this is in particular 'my puppy' during the day, Ernie and I both look forward to our future plans for further development, while Ernie continues with his Domestic Greenkeeping Business.

Our lives are also shared with Birman Cats,  and our two special mates, Mia (Bullmastiff X) and Chance (Bull Terrier X), who came home with me when I was Centre Manager and Animal Welfare Inspector for our local SPCA.  There was just no-one who could look after them as well as I could!!!

I have made some wonderful friends through my involvement with Dogs, and am grateful for the encouragement and support many have given me over the years, and in particular my Husband Ernie who is always there as my number one Supporter.   And to my good friends in Australia, who have entrusted me with their beautiful dogs sent to me over the years.   Without this support, Azzaro would not be where it is today.

I am currently on the Ribbon Parade Judging Panel with the New Zealand Kennel Club.

I hope you enjoy our website,
Karen Leslie
